Summer Class 2026: Writers' Intensive - Seminar
Class Description
12:00 PM - 1:30 PM PST | 3:00 PM - 4:30 PM EST
July 27 - August 7th (Weekdays Only) | For Intermediate, Advanced, and Dedicated Writers
The Writers' Intensive Seminar is the most intensive offering of the Young Authors' Alliance Summer Program, designed for writers who are eager to challenge themselves, engage deeply with their craft, and become active members of a creative community. This offering is unique to our typical programs as the seminar spans two weeks (weekdays only), providing participants with additional time to develop their writing, engage in meaningful discussions, and experience the full creative process from drafting to revision.
Unlike a traditional class, this seminar prioritizes the writing process itself. Participants will spend the majority of their time generating new work, revising existing pieces, participating in small-group workshops, and engaging in thoughtful discussions about craft and storytelling. Writers will be expected to submit and share writing on a daily basis, provide constructive feedback to their peers, and actively participate in collaborative discussions centered on revision and growth.
Instructors will serve as mentors and facilitators, offering individualized feedback, guidance, and support throughout the seminar. Participants will learn not only how to strengthen their own writing but also how to thoughtfully analyze and critique the work of others, a critical skill for any serious writer.
This seminar is best suited for writers who are comfortable sharing their work, receiving feedback, and dedicating themselves to a rigorous creative environment. Whether participants are developing poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or experimental work, they will leave the seminar with a stronger portfolio, a deeper understanding of the revision process, and meaningful connections with fellow young writers who share their passion for storytelling.
Class Summary
Participants will immerse themselves in the complete writing process, from idea generation and drafting to revision, critique, and publication-ready work. Through workshops, peer discussions, writing exercises, and individualized feedback, students will strengthen both their creative and analytical skills while learning how to thoughtfully engage with a community of writers. By the end of the seminar, participants will have developed a substantial portfolio of original work, gained experience giving and receiving constructive feedback, and built lasting connections with fellow young authors who share their commitment to the craft.

Because this seminar is workshop-based and centered on community engagement, participants are expected to actively contribute throughout the two-week program. Students should be prepared to write regularly, share their work with peers, and provide thoughtful feedback during workshop sessions. The success of the seminar depends on active participation and a willingness to engage with both the writing and revision process.
Unlike a traditional class, not every session will consist of direct instruction. On select days, participants will have access to optional writing labs, office hours, and guided work sessions where instructors will be available to provide individualized feedback, answer questions, facilitate discussions, and offer dedicated time and space for students to focus on their writing. While attendance at these sessions may be optional, students are strongly encouraged to take advantage of these opportunities to maximize their growth and engagement within the seminar community.
